Split Ends

Ladies, I need your input! For one reason or another, I need recommendations for where to go to get my hair cut. I have horrid split ends because it has been too long since my last trim. Where does a girl go for a not-too-expensive, doesn't work at an establishment with the word "clip" in their name, not-too-ditzy, and not just-out-of-hair-school-with-black-on-the-bottom-and-blonde-on-the-top-stylist in Provo? Where do all of my beautiful friends get their hair done? Leave a comment!

The Zone

One of the reasons that I love school is because of "the zone". When I am working on certain types of assignments or projects, my brain goes into this lovely mode where all my thoughts are directed toward what I am working on. It is like meditating, because my thoughts are very focused and moving forward, and my mind is empty of everything except what I am working on. While in the zone time goes by in hours not minutes. It is bliss. And maybe this is just me, but I usually have so many thoughts running around and around in my head without much purpose to them, that when I focus and direct and put my thoughts toward a useful purpose and have them work for me in a streamlined way, its like I've conquered something. It feels good :)
I get in the zone most easily when I am doing calculus or reading well written fiction. I am noticing my zone as I am writing the paper that I am working on, and am so grateful. Its like leaving life for a little while. The zone might not be the best vacation ever, cause you don't get a tan, but it is definitely the cheapest. Y'all should try it ;)

My Birthday Weekend!

So I am really bad at taking pictures, in the sense that I never take any! So I have stolen someone else's to give just one example of the fun I had this weekend.
I went to the Festival of Colors again this year (I miss you Jess!) and I also went bowling, had a dinner party with a bunch of friends, and went to Stephanie Abraham's surprise b-day party (we share the same day). Anyway it was good times!
At the F of C I had 5 car loads of friends go, and that was awesome, and I couldn't breathe because there was so much colored powder flying everywhere, which was also awesome, and I thought quite appropriate for the celebration of welcoming spring - it represented the celebration of allergy season :) Another side affect of the powder filling the air was the intense amounts of purple stuff that I got in and around my mouth. That is why my smile is not so big in the picture, I was trying not to gross everyone out. Also, I felt like such a rebel, because I saw people chillin/dancing on the roof of one of the pavilions and Steve offered to boost me up there, and it was way fun for the thirty seconds before the security guard showed up. I live on the edge peeps. Always remember that :) Peace out, I am going to go do something else cool besides spend time on the computer so I have more stories to tell! Hare Krishna! Oh and yes, I am 21 now, but I will blog about that later...

My surrogate mother

Every since freshman year, I have been eating out of vending machines that are conveniently located in almost every building on campus. I buy cheap, healthy things most of the time such as apples, granola bars and yogurt, and orange creamsicles that are actually not even fattening, along with the occasional splurge for easy mac, chex mix, or chocolate milk.
When I was growing up my mom was amazing at bringing us snacks in the car when we were on our way to our next extra curricular after school. Always healthy and always there. Since I have flown the nest, sadly, the vending machine is now the substitute for that wonderful convenience.
I noticed the other day however, that I have this deep seated psychological fear every time I swipe my card and make my selection, as the machine so kindly tells me to, that my snack will not vend. It happens. Once in awhile, my chex mix will get stuck right before the metal spiral is finished turning. And then the horror of knowing that my money is wasted, and I have no food! I become one of those sad people that starts lamenting and pleading out loud to the vending machine saying, "NOooo! Come on!" and futilely tries to shake the massive bulk of steel and glass. So everytime now I anxiously watch with bated breath, hoping that the machine will give me what I paid for. Its like gambling. I put my money in, and the machine whirs, and I hope that I am going to get something out. I miss the good old days of snacking on apple slices in the hot car with the A/C at full blast while being chauffeured around. I never knew how good I had it! :)

The space between...

I would like to take a moment to describe one of the ways that I spend my time. My bed at college has this little headboard and a large desk connected to it. But there are spaces that cannot be closed between the wall and the bed on both the top and the side and the bed+desk is way too heavy for me to even budge... This little detail has proved unfortunate for me because, like many single people my age, I sleep with my cell phone. It is my alarm clock and my nightlight, and is almost attached to my body. But the key word is "almost", because the cracks between the wall and bed are are the perfect size for my cell phone to fall into, but are too small for my hand and arm to go down. Do you have any idea how many times my cell phone has fallen into these dark and skinny spaces? I have spent hours on my knees with my face mashed to the mattress, trying to cram my arm and other various objects skinnier than my arm into this dust bunny territory, while holding a flashlight in my mouth. I have spent enough hours trying to retrieve my phone that I have developed an ingenious system that involves masking tape and the sheath of a plastic sword I bought at the dollar store for Halloween :) Of late, to outsmart the problem, I have taken to shoving the edges of my comforter and garbage sacks down there to plug up the space. But today my phone found a new crack that I didn't know it was small enough to fit through! What is all my education worth if I cannot out smart my own bed?? I have now applied copious amounts of tape over the crack in an intricate weaving pattern in another attempt.
So I apologize to the girl who lives below me for the scrapings of a hanger along the wall from one to two thirty in the morning that one night last semester, and to all of you whose calls I have missed while my phone was at the bottom of these horrid crevices. And wish me luck with my tape, garbage sacks, and sword sheath. I will probably need it in the near future.

Cosmo and I are now BFF's

so, i went to the huge BYU vs. U of U basketball game yesterday, and it was so awesome!!! my friends in the ward started camping in line on Wednesday, so that they would have really good seats. Yes almost four days of camping on the sidewalk. Suprisingly there were a lot of people doing the same thing. there was a line of tents, apparently, although i never went to the tent, which i was way sad about. i was supposed to take some "shifts" of being in the tent, but i had two tests, so i just showed up right before the game and had the most amazing seat! there were like 5,000 students directly behind me. it was so loud! but anyway, the game was really close, but we ended up winning by 12 points. but one of the best parts was when cosmo the cougar, which is BYU's mascot, came through the crowd and stood right by where we were during the best point of the game when we were coming up in points from being behind by like 8 points. we got pictures with him, and i was so excited!! and after the pictures cosmo stood next to me and watched the game for awhile, and we were jumping and screaming together, well i guess me and the 10,000 people were screaming, cosmo doesn't talk, but then we scored, and in our excitement, he reached over and hugged me and it was so awesome! we totally had a moment :) and i have always wanted to meet him!! and i did! and he hugged me! yes!
